Happy Birthday QKD!!

Thanks for stopping by on this leg of the 5th Birthday celebration blog hop for Queen Kat Designs Stamp Co. The Royal Court is rocking it today, aren't they?

I'm still into playing with resists. :) This time I used the new Fall Seasonal inks from Tim Holtz.. the color is Seedless Preserves. I love this color! :)

The stamp on this card, YES! It's only 1 stamp. :) It's a new background stamp that's coming out tomorrow at our stamp release party. I think I'll name it falling stars. I originally thought of it for a Christmas stamp but I'm lovin how it turned out for a Birthday card! the silver is my silver sailor pen and the dots that look kinda black are actually purple rhinestones. The whole card just blings in real life! :)

The resist I used on this card was versamark. I used my VM pad to stamp my background stamp then applied the Seedless Preserve ink over it.

I hope you like my card and will come check out the 19 day birthday celebration we have going on. There's lots and lots of fun stuff! It's over on our Facebook Fan Page.

Your next hop stop is... Kerry!

Have a happy day!

Changing It Up!

Oh Holey Cow! 2 posts in 1 day! I know.. right? You are all shocked huh? :) I'm having fun playing with resists! Well ok this isn't quite a resist. It's more of a "How to Change Patterned Paper" card. :) I call it Changing It Up.

So you have a bunch of old patterned paper you don't like.. But you can't bring yourself to get rid of it.. I say stamp it! I got this idea from Jennifer McGuire in her Inspiration Showcase class. I've done this quite a bit before and before I even knew about Jennifer or her class. But She reminded me of it. :) You know how it goes, you do something 1 time then you file it in the back of your head and need a nugde to pull out that "file" again? So.. here's how I made this card:

Take some patterned paper and use one of the new large background stamps from Queen Kat Designs. here's a link. I used Vintage Photo distress ink and stamped it onto some patterned paper and adhered it to my card front.

I then stamped another background and cut out part of the image, matted it and added it to the front of my card. Using a cuttlebug flower set I got about a year or so ago I made a little flower out of white cardstock and inked it with Wild honey distress ink. I added a rhinestone in the middle with some Glossy Accents and I punched the leaves out of the patterned paper (before it was stamped) Added ribbon and the flower to the front of the card and I was done! :)

Now you go try it! :)

Versamark Resist Card

Hi Stampy Friends!

It's been a really long time since I've blogged. So I thought I'd share a card with you that I just made. I'm playing with resist stamping this week and this is one of the cards that I came up with. So lets jump right in!

Supplies: black cardstock, 3 brads, adhesive, Versamark ink, Barn Door Distress Ink, soft cloth or towel, card base, and of course some stamps! I used a sentiment from Queen Kat Designs and a background stamp that will be released soon from QKD as well, Scissors, Black India Ink and an ink blending tool.

Directions:

1. Ink the background stamp with versamark ink. I used Champagne in VM ink. Next lay your stamp face up on your craft mat or work surface. Lay your glossy cardstock face down onto the stamp and gently rub all over it with your hands to transfer your ink onto your cardstock. Heat dry with your heat tool.

2. Using barn door ink and a blending tool, apply the ink onto your glossy cardstock. I find you get a much richer color if you use a blending tool and rub it into the cardstock vs. the pad to paper method because unless you press your ink pad into your paper and rub the heck out of it you will not acheive the bright colors. and this way you won't have to do layer after layer as if you were using the direct to paper technique. ps.. moral of the story, using an ink blending tool will save ink in your ink pad and you won't be rubbing it off of the paper onto a towel. :) That's the cheap-o in me! After you have inked it, gently rub the excess ink off with your towel to help the resist show through.

3. Mat the resisted background onto black cardstock and then adhere to the front of your card. Set aside.

4. Stamp the sentiment on white cardstock with black india ink and using your ink blending tool, color the cardstock with Barn Door ink. Cut right edge into a "v" and mat onto black cardstock, add brads and adhere to the card.

How simple was that?? Have a fabulous day!

Wind It Up

Good Morning, friends! Thanks for coming. I'm here today with a new release from Christina Lynn Myers. My stamp that I got to play with is called Wind It Up. For my card, I tried to focus on the girl and keep the background plain. I stamped her in Black India Ink and colored her with my prisma pencils and gamsol. Then I added crystal lacquer to her eyes, lips, heart and clock. Then I accented the gear on her stomach with my Sailor Silver Metallic Pen.
Join us tonight on the Facebook Fan page for a release party. The fun starts at 7pm PST and lasts anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour. There will be some giveaways and lots of fun.
Please hop over to Jeanie's blog for her creation. Thanks for coming.

It's almost Easter, right?

Ok so maybe not for a while... But I had to make this card!! I just had to. The stamp was calling to me. Her name is Carrot Bunnie. She's illustrated by Che Gilson over at Queen Kat Designs.
I used some hinges I've had forever! I mean... like.. oh.. maybe 5-6 years or so.. and some fun star brads to attach them to the card. This is one hefty card by the time I layered all the cardstock and added the metals.. I bet it weighs 1/2 a pound. lol
The hinges are actually functioning and the panel with the bunny open up. Under it I hand wrote "Happy Easter" and I still have the entire inside of the card to write to the person I send it to. I have someone in mind for this and I think her lil 12 year old heart will love it. :)

I used my Prisma pencils with gamsol to color the image and then touched up some parts with a Sailor metallic silver pen. It really adds some bling.

If you don't have any metallic pens, I suggest the Sailor brand. they come in a metal shaft with a shaker ball inside to really mix up the color. The tips are metal and once the paint is flowing it just glides on. I have both silver and gold.. well worth the money.

Ok... So that's my blog post for the day. Wow 2 days in a roll! I'm proud. :)

Take care and stay warm!
Vicki

It's a Foxy Day!

Today we are welcoming Diana Vick to our stamp designer roster at Queen Kat Designs. You've probably seen some of her stamps already but today is a big release of her images! We are proud to have Diana with us. This is my card that I made with Phillea.. I chose to work with her because I LOVE hot air balloons. :) Isn't she the cutest thing? I had fun coloring her. I made this card and one other that can be seen in the QKD gallery. On this one I just had to color her "white" fur purple! She just screamed to be a punk, steampunk fox. :) I used some shimmery silver cardstock for the mat on the image and it just sparkles and shines. I had some mini pearls on a string left over from a Findings kit and strung them on the right side of the card. It's a simple card but really cute.

Thanks for coming to my blog. Please continue the hop over at Chris' blog.

Have a happy day!
Vicki

Welcome Ash!

I am here to debut a new stamp line for Queen Kat Designs today. Have you seen the whole hop? If not, jump back to the QKD blog for more fun! I'm introducing "Chessie" to you today. He is Ash's take on the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. I love him!! I had fun making this card. It never ended. I took a sketch from my sketch gallery and went with it. I can not find the exact sketch online.. so I can't link you. I think it was one that got deleted when our gallery went down last year. :( but it's an easy card to make.

I stamped the kitty and saying in Wild Plum ink.. I believe that's the name of it anyway. It is from Tim Holtz' Adirondack line. I colored his eyes green with prisma pencils and then added diamond glaze to them. The patterned paper is really old.. It's from Cherry Arte... I made the flower using one of the cuttlebug Quilling sets and added a rhinestone in the middle. They are super fun to make.

I hope you enjoy my card. Please hop over to Penny's blog for her release.

Please join us tonight at 7pm PST on the QKD Fan Page.. We will have some giveaways as we release the stamps in the store.

Happy Stamping!!

Triple Tiara Tuesday

Hi Hi! Welcome to my part of the Triple Tiara Tuesday challenge this week. We have a super fun challenge this week. I was happy to learn a new technique and try something new with supplies I haven't used in forever.

The Chalkboard Technique is so much fun... I used black cardstock, Yellow and Pink chalks, white pigment ink and a Thank You stamp from the Studio 77 Collection at QKD.
I made a video that shows how to do the technique. In it I used a Flame stamp from the Boyz Toyz Collection and a pretty butterfly from an old Royal Kit.

Take the challenge and link your project to the inlinkz think on the right hand side of the QKD Blog. This is the last challenge for January. The winner will get a $25 rubber stamp gift certificate to QKD!

Take care and thanks for coming! Be sure to visit Wynneth and the QKD blog for the official rules.

Here's a video I made of this technique.

Happy New Year and Happy T3!

Been a while since I've last updated so... Happy New Year!! I hope your holidays were all you wanted and more. Today I'm here with the second week of Triple Tiara Tuesday from Queen Kat Designs.

Our challenge for this week was to create a card using White as the main color. So... I used the Butterfly Fairy from the Creepie Cutie collection that's coming out tomorrow at our Re-Launch of the line! You could say it's a preview of what's to come tomorrow from Kristie. :)

Super super simple card!! Just stamp your image onto some white cardstock and color. Layer onto some purple cardstock, add flowers and use pop dots to adhere the image to the front of your card. Stamp Hello in the bottom right and add some clear crystal lacquer or glossy accents to the skulls and eyes on the image. :) top with a large purple brad on the flower centers and you're golden!! See, what'd I tell you? Easy card, right?

I'm the last top of the triple tiaras today so please jump back to the QKD blog, read over the specs again and make your card! Submit it in the contest for your chance to win $25 in stamps from QKD!

Happy Stamping!
